The Monterey County Office of Education Migrant Education Program to Partner with Christina’s Smile Charity Dental Clinic, the PGA Tour and Champions Tour
The Monterey County Office of Education Migrant Education Program is hosting the Christina’s Smile Children’s Charity Dental Clinic in cooperation with the PGA Tour and Champions Tour next week as follows:
Wednesday, February 8 through Friday, February 10, 2017
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Twin Creeks Golf Course, 1551 Beacon Hill Drive, Salinas, CA 93905
The serious lack of access to dental services plagues children living in poverty. To address this challenge, MCOE’s Migrant Education Program is hosting this Children’s Dental Clinic to deliver high-quality, no-cost dental care to disadvantaged children from our local community.
Dental services will be delivered using a 48-foot mobile dental clinic, transported courtesy of Roadway Express. This is a local visit by a group that follows the PGA Tour and Champions Tour nationally. Local volunteer dentists and their assistants provide dental care to needy children selected in advance by the Monterey County Migrant Education Program. In coordination with the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, children are selected from the communities in the surrounding area. NOTE: Students have already been selected to receive services this year.
The mobile clinic provides all of the equipment, instruments and supplies necessary to perform dentistry on children who might not otherwise have these services available to them.
Eighty (80) children between the ages of 6 and 15 will be served over the three-day period. An estimated $50,000 to $60,000 worth of dentistry services will be donated. Treatment ranges from routine cleanings and fluoride treatments to sealants, restorations, root canals, crowns, and extractions when necessary. Children may also be referred to community organizations for follow-up care.
