    Cross Country – Scores from 10/6/16 meet: Records set

    Carmel, Pacific Grove, Santa Catalina and Stevenson participated in the Peninsula Meet on the Pacific Grove High 1.95 mile course this afternoon.

    Pascale Montgomerhy of Carmel won the girls varsity race in a very good time of 12:05. She was followed by Anna Stefanou of Pacific Grove, Audrey Bennett of Santa Catalina and Christina Hashimoto of Pacific Grove of Pacific Grove.

    Team Scores:

    Carmel 19, Santa Catalina 36, Carmel 15, Stevenson Incomplete team, Pacific Grove 19, Santa Catalina 44, Pacific Grove 15, Stevenson Incomplete team, Santa Catalina 15, Stevenson Incomplete team. Carmel and Pacific Grove have already met earlier this season so no team score was kept for them.

    Jake Alt of Pacific Grove won the boys varsity race in a course record time of  9:46.34. He was followed by Emerson Hardy and Kenshi Husted of Carmel and Henry Loh of Pacific Grove. The top four finishers broke the old course record of Jesus Rodriguez of Soledad, set only 3 weeks ago.

    Team scores:

    Carmel 15, Stevenson 48,  Pacific Grove 15, Stevenson 50. Pacific Grove and Carmel have already met this season so no team score was kept for them.

    Cross Country: PG Invitational 10/1/16

    Pacific Grove won both boys and girls team titles. Caleb Torres, Jake Alt and Henry Loh all won individual calss races for the Breakers on their home course. Pacific Grove girls were led by Christina Hashimoto and Anna Stefanou, 2nd and 3rd in the girls senior race and Kismet Isik finished 3rd in the girls sophomore race.     Cross Country: Girls Remain Uundefeated

    The Pacific Grove girls remained undefeated with a decisive victory over defending MTAL champs Greenfield today in Greenfield. Christina Hashimoto won the race as the Breaker girls dominated with a 1-4 finish. She was followed by teammates Anna Stefanou, Kismet Isik and Mei Bailey. Team score was Pacific Grove 17, Greenfield 38.

    The Pacific Grove boys were defeated by Greenfield by a score of 25 to 32. Rigo Garcia of Greenfield won the race. Top finishers for Pacific Grove were Henry Loh and Jake Alt in 2nd and 3rd. The Breakers are now 2-1 on the season. Next up for Pacific Grove will be the Pacific Grove Invitational this Saturday at Pacific Grove High School featuring 26 teams.

    Cross Country: Breakers win Boys, Girls Varsity over Carmel

    Pacific Grove High School traveled to Carmel Middle School for a dual meet with Carmel High School. The Breakers won both the boys and girls divisions for the second week in a row to remain perfect in MTAL competition. Both boys and girls races were highly competitive and very close. Pacific Grove also won the boys junior varsity race. Neither Carmel or Pacific Grove had complete teams in the girls junior varsity division.

    PG kicks off Cross Country MTAL Season with a Win

    Pacific Grove hosted Soledad and Gonzales to kick off the MTAL cross country season on Thursday afternoon. Pacific Grove won both ends,  21 to 40 vs Soledad and a perfect score of 15-50 vs Gonzales. Jesus Rodriguez of Soledad set a course record of 9:58.75 narrowly beating Pacific Grove’s Jake Alt, 9:59.34. Both bested Emerson Hardy’s Carmel course record of 10:03. Alt was closely followed by teammates Henry Loh, Everett Millette and Luca Lauritzen.

    The girls meets were dominated by Host Pacific Grove. Anna Stefanou won in a personal best time of 12:27.5. She was followed by teammates Christina Hashimoto, Kismet Isik and Mei Bailey as Pacific Grove had the first four finishers overall. Team scores were Pacific Grove 15, Gonzales 50 (perfect score), and Pacific Grove 16 Soledad 43. Next up for Pacific Grove will be a dual meet at Carmel next Thursday. Full results to follow.

    Despite Missing Teammates, Breakers Take Second at Tahoe Tracl Meet

    Pacific Grove High School participated in the 41st Annual North Tahoe Invitational Friday, Sept. 9, Thirteen runners from Pacific Grove participated in the meet in Tahoe City, CA. The Breakers fielded a complete team in only one race, the boys varsity.

    Even though Pacific Grove was missing their 2nd and 3rd best varsity boy  runners they were able to win the second place plaque. Below are individual results for Pacific Grove runners and a link for complete results. Freshman and sophomores ran 2.8 miles, Varsity ran 3.3 miles. Read more…»

    Track Teams are Off and Running

    First meet of the season today, 9/2/16, the 2nd Annual San Benito High School Dry River Run Invite, run in Hollister. 

    Pacific Grove found themselves up against Carmel, Seaside, North Monterey County, Palma, Watsonville, San Benito, plus teams from as far away as King City, Greenfield, San Lorenzo Valley, San Jose (Leland) (Santa Teresa) (Kipp San Jose Collegiate) (BASIS Independent Silicon Valley), (Gunderson) (Evergreen Valley), and Firebaugh.

    Nineteen Pacific Grove runners participated in the two mile race. Freshman boys were the second best freshman team at meet.

    Giants update

    The Dodgers won today, 8/13, by a score of 8 to 4 over the Pirates. Tonight the Giants have to fight to hold on
    to sole position of first place, Madison Bumgarner is on the mound against Baltimore . Stay tuned.

    Giants’ Manager Bochy Released from Hospital

    Bruce Bochy was released from a Miami hospital this morning and is expected to manage tonight’s game. The Giants’ win on Monday must have helped. The particular problem causing the manager to feel ill on Monday is not known at this time. Bochy is reported to be improved and ready to return for today’s game.

    Giants Mgr. Bochy hospitalized

    Miami, Florida – This morning, Giants Manager Bruce Bochy was admitted to University of Miami hospital after feeling ill. He is being checked at the hospital and will be monitored overnight. He is resting comfortably and is expected to return tomorrow. Bench coach Ron Wotus will serve as manager tonight for the Giants.

    Giants Update

    The Giants’ new third basement Eduardo Nunez is set to start at third base today when the Giants play in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park. Madison Bumgarner is set to start for the Giants this evening. Matt Duffy has been traded to Tampa Bay. Game time is 4:05 PM on CSN TV. Hunter Pence will start again in right field. Joe Panik starts at second base. Look for a Giants’ win tonight.

    Giants Update on 7/22/16 game

    The San Francisco Giants were defeated by the New York Yankees on July 22 by a score of 3 to 2. The venue was Yankee Stadium with 45,304 fans present to enjoy the game. The Giants starting pitcher was Madison Bumgarner, followed by relievers Osich, and Romo. The Giants scored in the 7th & 8th innings. Three errors by Brandon Crawford contributed to the loss. Bumgarner threw 115 pitches and 75 strikes. Osich threw 16 pitches and 10 strikes followed by Romo with 10 pitches and 6 strikes. The New York runs were in the first, second, and 8th innings.

    Giants Update 7-15-16

    The San Francisco Giants are on the start of their first road trip after the ALL STAR break. The Giants travel first to San Diego for a three game series on July 14, 15 and 16. The Giants then fly east to play the Red Sox on July 18 & 19 followed by the New York Yankees for three games starting on July 21.

    2017 Big Sur Marathon Begins Registration Process July 15

    Multiple opportunities to enter the “bucket list” race are available  through a series of random drawings and special categories

     Registration to enter a series of random drawings for the 2017 Big Sur International Marathon begins Friday, July 15.

    Due to its continued popularity, the Big Sur Marathon offers various opportunities to earn a space in the April 30, 2017 race. These include drawings for groups and couples, loyalty runners, Monterey County residents and “bucket list” or first-timer entrants.  In addition, a ‘last chance’ drawing will be held once all selected runners have completed registration.     Giants Sweep Arizona

    The Giants defeated Arizona by a score of four to nothing on July 10 and remain in first place in the National League West ahead of the Dodgers. The Giants record is now 57 wins and 33 loses. Madison Bumgarner threw a one hitter and matched his best of 14 strikeouts in a game. Brandon Crawford leads the Giants with 61 RBI. See full details and images of the sweep in the next print issue.     Giants Update with boxscore

    The Giants defeated the Rockies on July 6 and held their opponent to a single run. Johnny Cueto now has a career
    high of ten straight wins. Cueto also hit a single in the second inning. Buster Posey hit his 11th home run of the season.

    Giants Update: 11 innings to defeat Arizona

    The S.F Giants defeated Arizona by a score of five to four after 11 innings of play. The Giants runs were scored in the third, fourth and 11th innings. There were 26,171 fans in attendance.

    The Giants starting pitcher Albert Suarez was optioned back to the River Cats. The wining pitcher was Josh Osich. Brandon Belt hit his 10th home run against Arizona. Serigo Romo has returned to the Giants’s roster.

    The Dodgers kept pace by sweeping the Rockies who lost to the Giants today on July 4th back at At&T . Stay tuned for images and the full game report in the next print edition.

    Giants update 7-1-16

    The S.F. Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 6 to 4 on July 1 in Arizona. The Giants’s starting pitcher was Johnny Cueto with Trevor Brown catching. The game was close in the bottom of the ninth. Key double play defense between Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt on first stopped the Arizona base runners. The Giants continue to lead the National League West with a record of 51 wins and 31 losses. The Giants announced that on July 1 2007 Barry Bonds had his 2,900th hit as the Giants defeated Arizona by a score of 13-0.

    Giants Update: Joe Panik

    The S.F. Giants announced on June 29 that Joe Panik was placed on the seven day disabled list due to a concussion suffered on June 18 when he was struck in the head by a pitch thrown by Tampa Bays’s pitcher Matt Moore.

    Giants Update

    Both the S.F. Giants and the L.A. Dodgers lost on June 25. The Giants remain in first place with a record of 48 wins and 28 losses and play their final game of the series with Philadelphia today, June 26.
    Oakland plays at AT&T park next starting on Monday for a series of two games at home and two in Oakland.
    The Dodgers announced on June 26 that they are 7 games back from first place in the N.L. Western Division.

    CWAC 2016 California Women’s Amateur Championship To be Played July 26 through July 30. The deadline to register for this year’s  Championship is July 1, 2016. The venue will be Quail Lodge for all but the event’s final round which this year is set for Pebble Beach. Read more…»

    Giants Update June 25, 2016

    giants updatesThe S.F. Giants defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 5 to 4 on June 24th at AT&T Park before 42, 238 fans. The Giants runs were scored in the first and seventh inning. The starting pitcher for the Giants was Jack Peavy. The winning pitcher was Giants reliever Josh Osich. The Giants announced in a post game press release that Brandon Belt was responsible for three RBIs and that Belt has reached base safely in 23 of his last 24 games. The Giants remain in first place in the Western Division with a record of 48 wins and 27 losses.

    Giants Update 6/21/16

    The Giants announced today that an MRI confirmed that Matt Duffy has a left Achilles Strain and is on the 15 day disabled list. The injury happened last Sunday at Tampa as he stepped on third base in the seventh inning. Mac Williamson has been recalled. Conor Gillespie will start at third base today in Pittsburg for the Giants.

    Giants win Against Tampa Bay 6-4 on June 18

    The S.F. Giants defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 6 to four on June 18th. The stand out play that gave the Giants the win was a home run hit by Joe Panik in the top of the ninth inning with two Giants on base. The home run was Panik’s 7th of the 2016 season. Joe Panik is the Giants’ staring second baseman and second in the batting order today with the lead off batter being center fielder Denard Span.

    The San Francisco Giants defeated the Tampa Rays by a score of five to one. Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija played the entire nine innings in Florida before 40,135 fans. The Giants scored 2 runs in the first inning. The sole Ray run was in the bottom of the 9th.

    Moment of silence at Giants Game tonight for Orlando victims

    Per our Giants Update correspondent, Bob Silverman: The GIANTS issued a press release on June 12 announcing that there will be a moment of silence prior to game tonight.
