    The S.F. Giants announced their picks for the First-Year Player Draft Information

    giants updatesThe draft ran from June 9 through June 11. The Giants drafted a total of 39 players. Included were 23 pitchers. Five of the players were drafted from the high school graduates and the rest were from the college level.The Giants announced the results in their June 11 2016 press release.

    Good news for GIANTS fans. The Rockies defeat the Dodgers at home on June 6. Giants can add to their lead over the second place Dodgers by a win on June 7 when they host the Red Sox. The Dodgers come to town to face the Giants this weekend. Great action at home for the Giants this week.

    S.Romo is pitching for the San Jose Giants as part of his rehabilitation. Hunter Pence to have torn hamstring tendon removed. Several months on DL and rehab. ahead. Watch for J. Parker in the Giants right field this week.

    Track: Zack Miller goes it alone to Central Coast Section Finals

    Zack Miller of Pacific Grove qualified for the Central Coast Section Finals next Friday evening, May 27, at Gilroy High School. Miller started the day with a massive school record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.55. His old best was 49.85 and the old school record by Tyrell Moss was 49.4 set in 1951.

    Miller is the number one seed in the 400 meter final. He followed that up with a personal record of 21-11, good for 4th best. He completed the day with a solid 200 meter time of 22.25, second best of the day. No other Breaker team members advanced beyond the trials. Link for full results is below.

    Amgen Tour of California Wed., May 18 Central Coast Affects

    Till May 22 California will again host The Amgen Tour of California, the largest professional cycling race in North America. This is an 8-day race featuring the same teams and riders that will compete in this year’s Tour de France. Stage 4 will start in Morro Bay on Wednesday, May 18 at 10:10 a.m. and finish at the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca at 3:45 p.m. The entire race caravan is about one mile in length. The race moves at 25-30 mph so it should pass by any given point in about 5 minutes. CHP will accompany the race and make every effort to minimize the impact on the residents, businesses, and traffic. Read more…»

    Softball: Parker Llantero Tosses a No-Hitter and Knocks in 5 RBI’s

    Adam Roach of Pebble Beach becomes four-time winner at Big Sur International Marathon

     The Big Sur International Marathon is known for its hills – and its wind.  Today’s conditions were among the most challenging in the event’s 31-year history.  Gusty headwinds of up to 25 mph greeted more than 7,100 runners taking part in today’s six race distances.

    Despite the challenging conditions, local runner Adam Roach, 32, stayed strong to win his fourth Big Sur title, a record surpassed only by one other runner, Brad Hawthorne, from the early years of the marathon.  In addition to this year’s victory, Roach took the title in 2012, 2013 and 2015. His 2016 time was 2:35:36.

    Remarking about the conditions Roach said, “It’s always really windy from 5 to 9 (miles), but at Hurricane Point the wind came swirling off the hill. I felt like I was going to fly into the ocean it was so strong.” Read more…»

    They’re All In: 3K By the Bay

    A record gathering of more than 5,000 participants from 44 Monterey County schools took part in the Big Sur Marathon’s fun run Saturday morning.  The By the Bay 3K (or approximately 2 mile) race took place along Ocean View Blvd. in Pacific Grove.

    3K runner 3K Group A cash purse of $13,800 was awarded to 20 schools who registered runners in the race. Read more…»

    Pacific Grove Track: More Medals at Los Gatos Top Eight Meet

    Pacific Grove High School participated in the Central Coast Section Top Eight Meet in Los Gatos Friday evening.

    Zack Miller placed 3rd in the varsity 400 in an excellent time of 49.94 and 4th in the varsity long jump. Freshman Jake Alt posted the best time ever for a PG freshman or sophomore placing 8th in the frosh soph 1600 with an excellent time of 4:32.74.

    The girls 4 x 400 relay team of Anna Stefanou, Taylor Biondi, Kulaea Tulua and Taylor Rainey improved on their school record performance of April 9 with an outstanding 4:17.56 mark enroute to winning their section. Taylor Rainey also ran a personal record of 49.92 placing second in her section of the girls 300 LH.

    Other local teams participating were Santa Catalina, Greenfield, King City, Palma, Salinas, Alisal, Watsonville, York and Carmel.

    Roman Munoz of King City won the boys varsity 1600 in a very good time of 4:17.71.

    Next up for the Breakers is the Peninsula meet at Carmel Thursday, April 28. Link for full results is at the link below. Mikayla Revera of Santa Catalina finished in both the 200 and 400.

    Survey Finds Race Track Contributed More than $60 million to County Economy

    Room nights, food and dining retail, transportation, and entertainment were factors in the total contributed by the Volunteer-Run Track.

    The total direct spending figure of $62.1 million represents nearly one-fourth of the direct spending produced annually by the Monterey Bay Aquarium according to 2013 data, and is four times the spending produced annually by the Big Sur Marathon (according to 2011 data).     PG Cluster Results

    Pacific Grove competed against teams from Anzar, York, Stevenson, Pacific Point, Pacific Collegiate, Oakwood, Marina, Georgiana Bruce Kirby, Trinity Christian and Santa Catalina. Pacific Grove won every match up with the exception of the Pacific Grove Girls vs. Santa Catalina.
    Zach Miller won the LJ, 400 and 200 as well as being a member of PG’s winning 4 x 4 relay. Mikayla Revera of Satna Catalina won the 100, 200 and 400. Kulaea Tulua of PG won the girls LJ and TJ. Anna Stefanou of PG won the 1600 and was on PG’s winning 4 x 4 relay. Nick Coppla won the 100 and ran on the winning PG 4 x 4 relay. Charles Shim of Stevenson won the SP and DT. Cece Rivera of Stevenson won the SP and DT. Next up for Pacific Grove will be the MTAL Frosh Soph Championship meet at Carmel Next Thursday.

    Salinas Invitational Results: Breakers set a Girls Relay Record

    The Pacific Grove High School Track team competed at the North Salinas Invitational today. Zack Miller posted a win in the long jump and 400. His 400 mark of 50.32 is second best all time for Pacific Grove High School. Kulaea Tulua won the triple jump and long jump. Douglas Dow was 4th in the 1600, Nick Coppla was 3rd in the 100, Jacob Wren was 6th in the pole vault. The girls 4 x 400 relay team won and set a new school record for the Breakers. In the attached picture is the record breaking relay team of Anna Stefanou, Taylor Rainey, Taylor Biondi and Kulaea Tulua. They posted a new record time of 4:20.02 besting the 2013 mark of 4:22.28.

    Also placing for the Breakers, Taylor Rainey winning the 300 low hurdles. Kismet Isik 4th in the frosh girls 1600 and Jake Alt placing second in the frosh soph 1600 and posting the second best all time Pacific Grove frosh soph time of 4:39.99.

    Next up for the Breakers is a cluster meet at Pacific Grove this Thursday afternoon. For full results see link below.

    The Pacific Grove High School Track team participated in the King City Invitational today. Zack Miller won the boys varsity 100 and 200, Kulaea Tulua won the girls long jump and triple jump. Jake Alt and Henry Loh finished first and second in the boys frosh soph 1600. Mary Gebing placed in the girls pole vault and long jump. Anna Stefanou placed second in the girls 1600. Douglas Dow placed third in the boys varsity 1600. Nick Coppla placed 4th in the 100 and 3rd in the 200. Taylor Rainey won the girls 300 low hurdles. Link for full results is  below.
