In response to the City of Pacific Grove’s police officer investigation and investigation outcome, Council Member McAdams submitted the “City of Pacific Grove Equity and Empowerment Initiative” that will be presented and discussed at the October 7th council meeting. This city wide call-to-action will put in place the formation of a community resident comprised Government Accountability Commission, will require an Equity Impact Assessment for all city policies, programs, and services, recommends the City of Pacific Grove become a member of the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), and other social equity policies.
“I wanted to thoughtfully respond to the thousands of community members who have expressed their frustration, anger, and loss of trust in an impactful capacity”, says McAdams. “This course of action establishes a transparent and clear process with a long term commitment to social justice from City leadership to our communities. There is no simple, easy solution for dismantling systemic racism or achieving justice. Evaluating city strategies, policies, and working together with community members and stakeholders is integral to securing justice and equality for all in Pacific Grove.”
