On February 21 at approximately 1:47 p.m., a fire engine, ladder truck, command vehicle and fire/rescue boat responded to a water rescue at 13th Street and Ocean View Boulevard. Upon arrival, a kayaker was struggling to control his kayak in high surf about 500 yards off shore. A command post was set up and worked in collaboration with Pacific Grove Police, State Parks Lifeguards and AMR ambulance. The ladder truck served as an observation post at 90′ high so that the State Parks Lifeguard swimmer could get his bearing and provide a visual for the boat rescue. The Coast Guard and Fire Boat were able to rescue the kayaker, assess for injuries and successfully bring both the patient and kayak to the breakwater area.
