On February 16, 17 and 19 the Monterey Fire Department will host a regional training exercise at the Holman building on Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove.
The former department store, which was built in 1918, is in the process of being repurposed and renovated into 25 luxury condominium units on the upper floors and commercial space on the ground floor. A few tenants remain in the building and the training will take place in the vacated portion of the building.
The unusual training opportunity, due to vacancy for the upcoming construction project, will include working in the large mid-rise building with hose lines, accessing upper floors using ladders to perform rescue and scenarios involving lost firefighters. The training will provide agencies an opportunity to refine working together in a simulated large scale emergency. During the demolition phase of the project, over the next few months, the fire department will continue to take advantage of smaller scale training opportunities.
The training will be conducted in a way to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses in downtown Pacific Grove
