• LP Beach Reopens for Limited Use

    Pacific Grove, California:

On Saturday, April 25, 2020 Lovers Point Park and Beaches were closed for public health safety. This action was taken to ensure social distancing protocols and eliminate public gatherings in compliance with both State and County Shelter in Place Orders.

Effective today, May 1, 2020 the City of Pacific Grove has reopened Lovers Point Beach to ocean access for water recreational activities only. Entry will be made available at the stairs closest to the Pacific Grove Recreation Trail. All other Lovers Point entry points will remain closed. No person will be permitted to sit or lie on the beach. All community members must continue to ensure social distancing requirements pursuant to the County Shelter in Place Order.

The intent of the limited reopening is to allow community members ocean access for recreational activities including surfing, swimming, diving, kayaking and paddle boarding. Due to the size of the beach area at Lovers Point, it is not conducive to walking and running activities, which will remain prohibited at this location.

The Pacific Grove Recreational Trail and Ocean View Boulevard remain open and accessible for those practicing social distancing protocols while walking, running and bicycling. In addition, other access points to the ocean are open and available to the public in Pacific Grove.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
