The Monterey City Council sub-committee studying a potential City-backed purchase of the Golden State Theatre will hold two public meetings next week to gather citizen input. The meetings will be held on Thurs., Sept. 26 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Fri., Sept. 27 from 10-noon at the Golden State Theatre, 417 Alvarado St., Monterey.
Vice Mayor Nancy Selfridge and Councilmember Libby Downey will hold the public meetings to listen to what people have to say about the future of the Golden State Theatre. Selfridge and Downey are the Council appointed members of the sub-committee studying a possible purchase. They are gathering input and will report their findings back to the full Council.
The owner of the Golden State Theatre has put the historic downtown building up for sale and has approached the City as a potential buyer.
