• NO WRITE-IN CANDIDATES FILED FOR NOV. 6 ELECTION

There are no official write-in candidates for the upcoming November 6 Statewide General Election. The last day to be an official write in candidate was Tuesday, October 23. Voters can only vote for eligible candidates printed on their ballot.

Did you know election officials still must review any messages in the write-in spots on the ballot? Fictional characters, “None of the above”, celebrities (if not an official write-in) and other unqualified write-ins (i.e., your own name, your spouse, etc.) require election officials to look at the contest to determine voter intent. This means real resources are allocated to review all markings and potentially delay the reporting of results. Votes for unqualified write-ins are not counted, all other contests are counted.

To vote for a candidate that is already listed on the ballot, simply fill in the oval next to the candidate’s name. There is no need to re-write the candidates name in the write-in space.

To learn more about the contests on your ballot, please review your voter guide available online at www.MontereyCountyElections.us.
