• Prisoner who Escaped Pleads Guilty, Faces 12 Years, 8 Months

    Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo announced that Freddy Swanson, age 34 and a resident of Seaside, pled guilty to escaping from the county jail, possession of cocaine for sale with a gun, possession of methamphetamine for sale with a gun, and auto theft.

    On December 25, 2014, while awaiting court proceedings on his drug, gun and theft offenses, Swanson managed to escape from the Monterey County Jail with the help of a fellow inmate, Clifford Kemper (age 30). Seventeen days later on January 11, 2015, he was captured at Home Depot in Seaside by the Monterey County Gang Task Force.

    Sentencing is scheduled for March 3, 2015 before the Honorable Carrie M. Panetta where Swanson is expected to be sentenced to twelve years, eight months in state prison. Clifford Kemper, pled guilty to assisting Swanson, and will be sentenced to two years in state prison on the same date.

    These charges were investigated by the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department.
