• Reminder: Tunnel closed tomorrow night

Thursday, Sept. 3, 10 PM to Friday, Sept. 4, 6 AM
Monterey, CA. – The Lighthouse Avenue tunnel south bound direction coming into Monterey will be closed Thursday, September 3 at 10:00 p.m. for maintenance work. The affected tunnel bore is the side that comes from New Monterey toward the Sports Center, known as the South Bore. Detours will be posted. A contractor will replace the outdated lights with new, more efficient lights that are still induction but a newer style. This will be a major repair that is necessary to provide ample lighting in the tunnel.
We anticipate the work will be completed prior to 6:00 a.m. Friday morning. The tunnel will open at 6:00 a.m. – rain or shine. Traffic will be diverted onto Pacific Street.
We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience during this project.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm. Click here for more information on the Beach Report Card. Click the name of the beach when it pops up for more details, or choose a beach below.
