• Retired PGPD Cdr. Nyunt Arrested on Threat Charges

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced today, March 3 that John Nyunt a former police commander with the Pacific Grove Police Department was arrested early Saturday morning, March 1, at his home in Monterey. Nyunt was booked on felony charges of committing criminal threats in violation of Penal Code section 422. The victim of the threats is his former wife Kristin Nyunt.

Nyunt is being held on $500,000 bail. His arraignment is expected to take place on March 4.

A broadcast news station is reporting that the threat took place before Kristin Nyunt was jailed on credit card forgery files but this has not been corroborated. She remains in jail in Santa Cruz county.

Pacific Grove Police Chief Vicki Myers stated that as Nyunt is retired and that this is a Monterey District Attorney case, she has no statement on the matter.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
