• Secretary Panetta to hold book-signing Nov. 11

    Secretary Leon Panetta will be signing copies of his New York Times bestselling book, Worthy Fights: A Memoir of Leadership in War and Peace, at the Casa Munras Garden Hotel & Spa on Tuesday, November 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  His book is an inspiring and revelatory autobiography of Panetta’s legendary career, which includes his time serving as the Defense Secretary and CIA Director in the Obama administration.  Secretary Leon Panetta

    The book signing event is free and open to the public–advanced registration is required.  At the event attendees will have the opportunity to meet Secretary Panetta, shake hands and have their books signed.  The book is currently #7 on the New York Times non-fiction bestseller list.

    Panetta was born in Monterey and played a vital role in establishing the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Together with his wife, Sylvia, he founded the Panetta Institute for Public Policy, which provides a variety of study opportunities in government, politics and public policy, and sponsors a range of other programs.

    Leon Panetta, a Democrat, served in the Obama administration as Director of the CIA from 2009 to 2011 and as Secretary of Defense from 2011 to 2013. As director of the CIA, Panetta oversaw the U.S. military operation that led to Osama Bin Laden’s death.

    In addition to his most recent political positions, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1993, served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1993 to 1994 and as President Bill Clinton’s Chief of Staff from 1994 to 1997.
