Construction activities for improvements to the intersection of Del Monte Avenue and Pacific Street will begin on Monday, February 11, 2013. The work will involve the reconstruction of the existing intersection in three phases, along with storm drain improvements, traffic signal and street lighting upgrades. Intermittent road closures and traffic detours are anticipated during the course of construction.
The first phase of construction requires closing the west (uphill) leg of Del Monte from Pacific Street to the Troia’s Market driveway. The Del Monte Avenue road closure will occur Monday, February 11 through Friday, March 28, 2013. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open on Pacific Street throughout the first phase of construction. Westbound traffic exiting Downtown from Del Monte Avenue (uphill) may turn right onto Pacific Street toward Lighthouse Avenue or left onto Pacific Street toward Franklin Street. Troia’s Market will remain open during construction and pedestrians may enter the market from both Pacific Street and Del Monte Avenue. Parking on Del Monte in front of Troia’s Market will be available with vehicle access from Van Buren Street to Del Monte Avenue. A traffic detour for southbound traffic on Pacific Street is also scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday, February 19-20, 2013. The southbound Pacific Street detour will direct drivers traveling south on Pacific Street from Lighthouse Curve to turn RIGHT onto Scott Street, LEFT onto Van Buren Street, LEFT onto Franklin Street, and RIGHT onto Pacific Street. Northbound traffic will remain on Pacific Street and will not be detoured.
Construction is expected to be completed by June 30, 2013.
The City’s contractor, Monterey Peninsula Engineering and its subcontractors will be performing the work.
